MDUFC players invited to ID & USTC Camps
Seven Maryland United FC players (4 girls and 3 boys) were recently invited to ID and training camps run by US Soccer [USSF] and US Club Soccer [USClubSoccer.org].

To attend these camps, players have to be nominated by their club coaches and occasionally by opposing coaches as well. Maryland United FC has a long history [1,2,3,4,5] of producing players worthy of inclusion to these prestigious events.

WHAT ARE US SOCCER TRAINING CENTERS?

US Soccer Training Centers (USTC) are run directly by U.S. Soccer staff and used to identify players for the Youth National Team program. Players are identified by the US Youth National Team scouting network and invited based on their performances with their respective club teams. The first USTC in 2016 for Birth Year '03 Boys was held in February. Rowan Browne and Banke Yiadom - on U13 Red : 03 - trained at the Maryland SoccerPlex along side many players from Development Academy sides. Matt Thornton (also on U13 Red) will join his two teammates at a USTC in late April.

Earlier this month, we had 4 players selected to the Girls USTC Combine in Philadelphia (April 9th). Lily McCarthy and Camber Hayes were chosen from the U14 ECNL team. They have performed very well over the season under coach Scotty Villagran.

From U13 Pre-ECNL [Coach Steve Campbell] : Both Alayna Lynchard and Danielle Campbell have exceled in their ECNL matches and were also selected to attend the USTC Combine. This is the second USTC invite for all 4 girls and Browne.

The 2003 Boys iD2 Camp in Raleigh, North Carolina in April was attended by Rowan Browne, Banke Yiadom and Matt Thornton [U13 Boys Red : 03 / Coach Colin Herriot].

Over the course of four days, 120 players from 71 US Soccer Club teams and 20 states showcased their skills in front of the id2 showcase’s directors and coaches. On the final two days, players put their training to the test in 11 v. 11 scrimmages

► Rowan Browne impressed the coaches well enough to be named to the overall iD Camp's Best XI players.

TopDrawerSoccer.com covered the event and had this to say about Browne and Yiadom:

D Rowan Browne, Maryland United FC (MD): Browne played at center back and left back while at the showcase and made a statement at both positions. On the ball, he had a delicate first touch and didn’t turn the ball over. On defense, Browne was relentless and fought for every single ball in his vicinity.

D Banke Boakye-Yiadom, Maryland United FC (MD): Boakye-Yiadom wasn’t afraid to be aggressive and slide in on challenges while still keeping it clean.

Browne will be leaving Maryland United FC for Denmark this summer where he has trials with FC Nordsjælland and FC København.
