Kia Rankin - Tenacity Personified

Kia Rankin - Tenacity Personified

2x All-American is long standing club member...

We are very proud to present a special feature article for Maryland United FC's Kia Rankin (U18 ECNL) for her dedication, accomplishments and focus.

Kia has been a member of Maryland United/Freestate since U9. Her work ethic is second to none and over the years and it has paid dividends. She was recently voted the 2016 Gatorade Player of the Year for Maryland.

Her club and high school coach Harry Canellakis had this to say...

"What sets Kia apart is her unbelievable tenacity in the face of adversity and her willingness to do exactly what’s needed for the team depending on the situation at hand. It’s in the toughest games where Kia has played her best soccer and that is not a coincidence. It’s that quality that is -- at the heart of it -- not coachable.

I think every coach knows, no matter what sport you are talking about, that there is an intangible quality to every great player. Kia has that intangible quality to simply be whatever her team needs at any given moment. It’s for these reasons that Kia has been recognized so much during her high school career.

Kia is a two time All-American, one of the few that has won that award twice at McDonogh. She is also the 2015 Baltimore Sun Player of the Year. She was also listed as one of the top recruits in the country according to Top Drawer Soccer."

Kia has chosen to play her collegiate soccer at powerhouse N.C. State
